Python 2.7.0 was released on July 3rd, 2010.

Python 2.7 is scheduled to be the last major version in the 2.x series before itmoves into an extended maintenance period. This release contains many of thefeatures that were first released in Python 3.1. Improvements in this releaseinclude:

I want to install pip for python 2.7 on my Mac. I think this is the python located in /usr/bin/python. Unfortunately I have already installed Anaconda, which installs python 3.6.3, and changes things so that the command python xxx.py automatically runs xxx.py using python 3.6.3. It means we have to manually download the new files since Python doesn't include a command-line way to update. What is the right way. The basic premise of all Python development is to never use the system Python. You do not want the Mac OS X 'default Python' to be 'python3'. Usage of pyenv to manage Python environments is recommended.
